This section presents the number of juvenile delinquency cases handled by probation departments and Family Courts. Data are shown for the following case processing points: detention admissions, probation intake and adjustment, initial petitions filed in Family Court, probation supervision cases opened, and cases under probation supervision at the end of each year.

These data are presented by county, region and annually for the most recent five-year period:

The state Office of Children and Family Services maintains detention admission data, corresponding data definitions and technical notes.


JD Probation Intake Cases Opened 2018-2022 (Excel)                                                        
Counts represent the number of probation intake cases opened, not unique individuals. Intakes are shown in the year during which they were conducted and presented in the county and region where the intakes occurred.


Percentage of JD Probation Intake Cases Closed as Adjusted 2018-2022 (Excel)
The percentage of all intakes closed in a given year after being resolved without court intervention. This includes cases resolved at the initial probation conference or after a period of adjustment services.

JD Initial Petitions Filed with Family Courts 2018-2022 (Excel)
Counts represent the number of petitions filed, not unique individuals. Petitions are shown in the year they were filed and presented in the county and region where the filing occurred.

Youth Probation Supervision Cases Opened 2018-2022 (Excel)
Counts represent the number of supervision cases, not unique individuals. Probation supervision is imposed by the Family Court after a delinquency finding or by the Youth Part of Criminal Court after a criminal conviction or youthful offender adjudication. Cases are shown in the year during which they were opened. The county and region displayed is where cases are supervised; the arrest or adjudication may have occurred in a different county or region.
