The Sex Offender Registration Act requires the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to maintain the state’s Sex Offender Registry and a directory available online that only includes individuals designated as having a medium risk of re-offense (Level 2) or high risk of re-offense (Level 3).

Search the Public Registry

DCJS works to ensure that the information in the Registry is accurate and complete. All information in the Registry, however, is reported to the agency by other sources. As a result, DCJS makes no express or implied guarantee concerning the accuracy or completeness of this data.

Members of the public who believe that any information about a registered individual is incorrect, may contact the Registry.

Individuals who are registered as sex offenders and have questions about their registration must submit those questions using surface mail and include their full name, address and date of birth.

Registry information must be used responsibly. Anyone who uses this information to harass or commit a criminal act against any person may be subject to criminal prosecution.

Information about individuals with a low risk of re-offense (Level 1) and those whose risk level has not yet been determined by a judge is available through a toll-free number: 800-262-3257.

Please note that some individuals designated as Level 2 or 3 offenders are not include in the public directory due to legal action. Information about those individuals is available through the toll-free number.

Individuals who call 800-262-3257 must have an individual’s name and one identifier: an exact address, date of birth, driver's license number or a Social Security number to find out if the person is registered as a sex offender in New York.

Glossary

Incarcerated: Individuals being held in local jails or state prison.

ICE Custody: Individuals being held in correctional facilities by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In Custody: Individuals being held in federal prisons located in New York State.

Law Enforcement Agency Having Jurisdiction: This agency has jurisdiction in the community where the registered individual currently lives. This agency may notify the community about sex offenders who live in the jurisdiction.

Previous Conviction(s) Requiring Registration: Convictions that required individuals to register prior to their current conviction, which is listed first on the Registry.

Supervising Agency: The agency responsible for supervising individuals in the community and enforcing any special conditions the individual must follow. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision or the name of the appropriate Probation Department is listed if DCJS was notified that the individual was being supervised at the time they were registered.

Special Conditions of Supervision: Special conditions are listed if DCJS was notified of those conditions. The supervising agency is responsible for ensuring that an individual complies with those conditions, which are specific to each individual and may restrict the individual's activities.
